Wallpaper Removal

Removing wallpaper doesn’t have to be a nightmare!

IF the walls have been properly sealed prior to installation of the paper, it most likely will come off and leave the walls in good shape.

To turn a difficult job into an easy job – just follow each step.

  • Protect floors and surrounding area.

  • Try removing the top wallpaper layer. If it comes off in tiny pieces try -piercing the surface of the wall covering with a perforation tool. This will allow the solution to seep in and loosen the paste. The wallpaper must be soaked completely – all the way through so the paste softens. This can take 2-3 soakings. Patience is a must, along with some elbow grease. Don’t rush the process. Let the solution do most of the work. Have lots of towels, rags, and old sheets etc. on your floors and counters to catch runoff. Once the wallpaper is loosened, remove it with a putty knife, being careful not to gouge the wall surface.

  • Use hot water and a safe, environmentally friendly wallpaper removal solution in a pump – up “garden sprayer”.

  • If your wallpaper is not coming off, water is not getting to the glue– it’s not wet enough. You may simply need to soak it more.

  • You may need to rent a steamer to get the wallpaper to release.

  • Be sure to remove the backing paper.

  • Finally, thoroughly wash the walls to remove remaining paste residue. Any removal solution or paste left on the walls will not be compatible with either paint or paste.

  • Repair nail pops, cracks, holes, etc.

  • Allow the walls to dry thoroughly.

  • If needed, prime the surface with a good quality primer/sealer.

  • And you’re ready to redecorate.
